  • Power, hot showers and stuff!

Never thought I'd appreciate a hot shower until I went without one for .... um .... a week!  And lights - ever tried cooking dinner in the dark, with just some little battery lights?  Oh and a heater!!!  The weather turned really cold (for Aussie) about two days into our trip.  We had frosts on several occasions - brrrrr!  It was really cold for us after Townsville where the night temps were around 15-20*C.  Now we have our heater and I'm not exaggerating when I say it goes ALL nights - as in the thermostat does not switch it off!  (I'm sure glad that power is included in the camping fee!)

So where are we and where have we been?

We left Townsville on Saturday 19 July and made it to a free camp spot at Reid River.  A lovely quiet spot, clean amenities and flood lights.

Here is some of the girls at Reid River - they were digging for treasure!

Next day we went on to Charters Towers - a lovely country town!  Would have liked to spend more time exploring.  We had lunch at the playground which the kids loved.  Suzanna especially enjoyed crawling at top speed though the sand.

This was the last day that Gabrielle went without a shirt!!

And we saw our first Road Trains!  These trucks are up to 50m long!!!

Our next camp spot, Campase River was recommend to us as a clean and quiet site!  *snort*  I'm not sure what was noisier, the trains on the one side or the road trains on the other side!!!  And the train even gave a long loud tooooot as it shot past at 9.30pm - poor Suzanna woke up with her eyes as wide as saucers!!!

The next morning we were greeted by a flock of Apostle birds!  They were really tame and the girls enjoyed feeding them.

We drove on down a very long straight road to a very tiny "town" (more like a village) called Prairie so named because of it reminded the early settlers of the American prairies.  This was Jasmines favourite spot - she'd love to live here!

This was about all there was there!  Across the road was this sign ...

never knew one road could lead to so many places - and places that we couldn't even pronounce!

That is the end of part one ... I'm out of time!  Will try and get this finished another day!
